Valentines for the Birds

Valentine suet cakes
You will need:
·         Suet
·         Bird seed
·         Heart shaped cookie cutters
·         Large paper clips
·         Cookie sheet
·         Wax paper
·         Freezer

Directions:
Mix suet with bird seed. Squish it into cookie cutters. Remove the cookie cutters. Unroll paper clips once (so you have a “hook”) and push circle end into suet cake. Place on waxed paper lined cookie sheet. Place in freezer. Once they are frozen hang them outside for the birds!

Optional: Add peanut butter, unsalted nuts, dried fruits, or dried corn to your suet cakes.

Suet is a high-calorie, high-energy food that is especially valuable to birds during winter. When it is cold outside birds needs to consume more calories to maintain their increased metabolic rate, suet fits that bill well!
